This is fantastic. Love it. That ship layout changing the behavior is insane. Stuff on the defense stations was a lot of fun, but the real fun was making massive flower blossoms across the system with tons of stations and just having minefields/auras everywhere. Most of the time, it was impossible to see the planets/ships in system. Kind of funny seeing "never implemented" and seeing Muutagen Crystals and Pitharan Dust. Makes my Stellaris journey feel ancient lol.

That's the problem with nerfing stuff. They generally go overboard and the OG thing suddenly becomes something no one ever uses and something else becomes the OG thing everyone uses instead. So they have to nerf that now.

Honestly xenophone more pop growth only affecting pops of primary species would make more sense as the goverment would likely encourage citizens to have more kids for the war effort and to ensure a that the majority of the empire is the primary species

"you can learn the basics after 100 hours or so" ...uh yea im not sure a game that takes 100 hours to learn the basics is easy to learn.... For me the biggest impediment to getting into Stelarris and other grand strategy games is simply how its presented at the start. They just throw the entire massive UI at you and go "yea figure it out" I feel they would really benefit from a campaign tutorial where they block out a lot of the UI and introduce one aspect at a time to ease people in. A lot of 4x and Anno style games are decent at this but for some reason grand strategy games never even attempt it

Maybe instead of a flat -x% reduction they should divide upkeep by some number and bonuses should add to the divisor, that way you get linear scaling it would scale the same way as production a 100% bonus would mean half upkeep which would mean you could have 100% more ships for the same upkeep and it scales like that no matter the number.

Plays seven hours of gameplay. Reaches early end game. Gets bored waiting for crisis. Attacks fallen empire. Has 700k fleetpower swept easily by a dozen battleships. 10/10 game, not at all infuriating

This is why auto station construction is a must. Don’t spend a year on each system

I tried Stellaris multiple times and just bounced off because even in PvE the old drives, planet caps and then admin cap was so opaque and frustrating. I think the game as become so much more accessible. I even enjoy the tech rebalance. Lower dificulties just weren't fun anymore, but sometimes you also don't want to play on max sweatyness either.l

I play single player and some multiplayer with friends. Machine Age definitely has some op stuff but it works pretty well overall with no issues so far and good stability.

i think my personal favourite exploit was the thingy where you were a hivemind on the old ringworld, and you would just ignore your mineral costs, only spam research districts, and since mineral deficit at that time only affected like alloy output, you could just ignore it and get like 3k research in the year 2230. then you quickly rush through all the tech and then start building your empire proper with battleships at the year 2240 or smth
